It Rides A Pale Horse by Andy Marino review

A novel about art and artists, twisted relationships, and hidden things bleeding into our world.

It Rides A Pale Horse is one of those books that almost defies an adequate description yet, once you start reading, it strikes you with perfect clarity.

A brother and sister are artists, each having a talent that is praised by critics and peers alike. But their works couldn't be any different from each other. The sister has a gift which allows her to add an unnatural element into her paintings. This causes events to happen in the real world to those who view her art.

Her brother is a sculptor of good repute but lacks any of his sister's "gifts". When his sister is kidnapped, he is forced to create a sculpture that allows beasts from another world into ours and could bring about the end of the world.

If that very glossarized summary doesn't excite you, you'll be forgiven. But suffice it to say that this fantastic book has a lot more to offer. Trying to describe it here would be giving away all the spoilers and I'm not going to do that.

There is this plot, sure, but also a ghost girl, another brother and sister whose experiments with the supernatural and great wealth allow them to bring about the apocalypse, and a supporting cast of characters that all shine in their own respective ways.

Truly, this is a must read horror novel and it's sum is so much more than any individual parts. If this book escaped you when it released, now is the time to rectify that.
